Thanks to goals in each half by Kolo Toure and Thierry Henry, Arsenal comfortably beat Blackburn at Ewood Park. Arsenal were reduced to 10 men as early as 12th minute when Gilberto Silva was given the marching orders by referee Rob Styles for lashing out at Robbie Savage. Robbie Savage hacked away at Gilberto as he shielded the ball and fouled the Brazilian again for good measure. Gilberto span around angrily and kicked out a leg, Savage fell to the ground in a crumpled heap and Rob Styles dusted off his red card. This incident didn’t do any harm to the Gunners’ confidence though. And nine minutes before the interval they broke the deadlock. Henry flighted in a free kick from a central position, Toure stole in front of his marker and his powerful header bounced in off the post past Brad Friedel. Arsenal ahead by 1 goal to nil. And from then on nothing dramatic happened till the 71st minute. Arsenal kept all the possession and Blackburn rarely threatened. Henry took the ball down the left flank, hugging the touchline. He played it inside to Fabregas and continued his run to receive the Spaniard’s return pass. Without breaking stride, the Arsenal captain flashed a shot into the top corner from 20 yards. Another el-classico from Thierry Henry. A great win for Arsenal that showed the class, grit and determination of this excellent team.
